In fact, the more suffering one sees others have to endure, the more one wants to gain merit in order to find a way to liberate others.

Therefore, studying the Dharma, then meditating on it to gain understanding to transform oneself and a collection of virtues go hand in hand. Receiving many empowerments from highly evolved Rinpoches will not fulfill his purpose. Attending many Dharma talks and understanding the Dharma intellectually is like a sick person not taking his medicine, but simply praising the effectiveness of the medicine for others while the disease destroys his body.

Mudra of Heaven
