Juliano Victor de Paula is a Brazilian footballer, midfielder for Fenerbahce and the Brazilian national team. He began his professional career in the Parana club from his native Curitiba. In 2007 he was recognized as the best young player in Serie B, and a year later he was promoted to Internacional, with whom he won the Copa Libertadores in 2010. Also with this team he reached the final of the Brazilian Cup and took silver medals in the Brazilian Serie A. After a successful performance at the Youth World Cup, he moved to the Ukrainian Dnepr, where he spent four seasons, playing in a total of 108 matches. Due to longing for his family, he returned to his homeland in 2014, where he spent three seasons at Gremio. In the summer of 2015, he moved to Zenit for 7 million euros, becoming the debut transfer of the new blue-white-blue coach Mircea Lucescu. Juliano is also called up to the Brazilian national team. In the summer of 2017 he moved to Fenerbahce.

  • Full name: Giuliano Victor de Paula
  • Date and place of birth: May 31, 1990, Curitiba (Brazil)
  • Role: midfielder (right winger, central midfielder)

Juliano's club career

Juliano was born in the resort town of Curitiba in a large family, where in addition to him there were seven more brothers. He grew up in a poor family, the footballer's mother Karsilia was a housewife, and his father was fond of gambling. Often there was not even food in Juliano's house:

“One day, when I was 10 years old, I was very hungry. He approached his mother and said: “I’m really hungry.” She just closed her eyes, she had nothing to give me. All I had was water and sleep."

At the age of 14, his parents divorced, Victor stayed with his mother, but continued to communicate well with his father, for whom he later bought a bar in Curitiba. Like any other Brazilian child, Victor started playing football on the streets of the city. Then he signed up for the local Parana mini-football team and within a few months he found himself on the big field. We had to play barefoot or in the boots of our older comrades. Only at the age of 12, the Parana coaching staff, fascinated by Juliano’s play, gave him full equipment.

In 2007, Juliano signed his first professional contract and already in his debut season was recognized as the best player in Serie B. Even then, the midfielder had the opportunity to move to Europe, but he decided to stay in his homeland, choosing one of the strongest clubs in the country in the late 00s, Internacional " Here he began to play as a right winger, forming an attacking trio with Sandro Ranieri and Andreas D'Alessandro. Juliano was responsible for dribbling and individual passes in this team, trying to adopt the skills of his idol Ronaldinho.

Success at Internacional came almost immediately - the player won the Gausha League, reached the final of the Brazilian Cup and became vice-champion of the main draw of the championship. The next season was the best in the Brazilian’s career. Together with Inter, he won the main club tournament in South America, the Copa Libertadores. He became his team's top scorer, scoring in the away final against Guadalajara. Juliano was also able to score a goal in the return match, which ultimately became victorious. The midfielder received the award for the best player of the Libertadores Cup and a cash reward of 60 thousand dollars, half of which was immediately transferred to a charitable foundation.

"Dnieper"

After this success, Juliano began preparing to move to Europe. He was associated with Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton, but in January 2011 the player ended up in the Ukrainian Dnipro. According to the player himself, before the transfer he talked a lot with his best friend Tyson, who played for Metalist for many years. The purchase of Juliano cost Dnepr 11 million euros and is still a record. On March 6, 2011, the midfielder made his debut for the new team in the UPL match against Tavriya (2-2). In his debut season, he did little:

“It was really hard. I didn't understand what the people around me were talking about. I couldn’t adapt to team play and Ukrainian football. Time passed and I began to understand the language, I found myself on the field"

Dnepr head coach Juande Ramos trusted the Brazilian and allowed him to play in any position in the attack. By the middle of the season, Juliano found himself in the position of central midfielder, becoming the link between defense and attack. Subsequently, Dnepr hired a personal trainer for Juliano, who helped him get in shape. In the 2012/13 season, the Brazilian became the leader of Dnepr, played in 28 matches, scored 9 goals and provided 7 assists. Together with the team, he reached the playoffs of the Europa League, scoring two assists in the final match of the group stage against AIK.

"Gremio"

In the summer of 2013, Juliano sent an official letter to the owner of Dnepr Igor Kolomoisky, in which he asked to let him go to another team. Victor wanted to move to Western Europe or return to South America, since his wife Andressa was never able to adapt to the climate of Ukraine. Dnepr refused and Victor was forced to send his family to Brazil, and he himself played one more season, after which he refused to sign a new contract and left for Gremio.

In the Brazilian team, Juliano already played full-time in the center of the field, leading attacks from deep. Here he spent another 2.5 seasons, playing in a total of 108 matches. In the 2016 season, he entered the fight for the Brazilian championship title with the club, but in the summer he ended up at Zenit, signing a four-year agreement. Gremio received 7 million euros for the midfielder. Spartak, Leicester and Udinese also applied for the footballer. The initiator of the player’s transfer was the St. Petersburg coach Mircea Lucescu, who was well acquainted with Juliano from the Ukrainian Championship.

"Zenith"

The Brazilian midfielder was acquired by Mircea Lucescu to strengthen the attacking line.

Juliano made his debut for Zenit in a match against Rostov (3:2), where he immediately scored a goal, which he scored from the penalty spot. In the first match of the group stage of the Europa League against the Israeli Maccabi Tel Aviv (4:3), Juliano scored one goal and made three assists, which helped the St. Petersburg team win a very important victory. Following the results of the 2016/17 Europa League, Juliano became its top scorer, scoring eight goals during the tournament.

In his debut season for the St. Petersburg team, Juliano played 38 matches for the club, in which he scored seventeen goals and provided eight assists. However, after a not very successful season for the St. Petersburg team, the Brazilian decided to leave Russia, which he notified the team management about. In mid-August 2017, Juliano officially became a player of the Turkish Fenerbahce. The approximate transfer amount was about 7 million euros.

Fenerbahce

Having moved to Turkey, Juliano became the main player of Ferebahce. The player’s debut came on August 20 in the match against Trabzonspor (2:2). The Brazilian scored his debut goal a month later, in an away match against Alanyaspor (4:1).

Juliano's international career

As a member of the Brazilian youth team, he became the Champion of South America and also reached the final of the World Championship. In 2010, he was called up by Mano Menez to the Olympic team and was included in the preliminary application for the London Games. In the same year he made his debut in the main Brazilian national team in a friendly match against Iran. Subsequently, he played seven more friendly matches, six of which ended in victory for the Pentacampions.

Excerpt characterizing Juliano

- Go away, daughter! Go away, dear... You will not kill this non-human. You'll just die in vain. Go away, my heart... I will wait for you there, in another life. The North will take care of you. Go away, daughter!..
– I love you so much, father!.. I love you so much!..
Tears choked me, but my heart was silent. I had to hold on - and I held on. It seemed that the whole world had turned into a millstone of pain. But for some reason she didn’t touch me, as if I was already dead...
- Sorry, father, but I will stay. I'll try as long as I live. And I won’t even leave him dead until I take him with me... Forgive me.
Caraffa stood up. He couldn’t hear our conversation, but he understood perfectly well that something was happening between me and my father. This connection was not subject to his control, and the Pope was infuriated that he involuntarily remained on the sidelines...
– At dawn, your father will go to the fire, Isidora. You are the one killing him. So – decide!
My heart pounded and stopped... The world was collapsing... and I couldn’t do anything about it, or change anything. But I had to answer - and I answered...
“I have nothing to tell you, Holiness, except that you are the most terrible criminal who has ever lived on this Earth.
Dad looked at me for a minute, not hiding his surprise, and then nodded to the old priest who was waiting there and left without saying another word. As soon as he disappeared through the door, I rushed to the old man, and frantically grabbing his dry, senile hands, I prayed:
- Please, I ask you, holy father, allow me to hug him goodbye!.. I will never be able to do this again... You heard what the Pope said - tomorrow at dawn my father will die... Have mercy, I ask you !.. No one will ever know about this, I swear to you! I beg you, help me! The Lord will not forget you!..
The old priest looked me carefully in the eyes and, without saying anything, pulled the lever... The chains lowered with a grinding sound, just enough so that we could say the last “goodbye”...
I came close and, burying my face in my father’s broad chest, gave vent to the bitter tears that finally poured out... Even now, covered in blood, shackled hand and foot with rusty iron, my father radiated wonderful warmth and peace, and next to him I still felt as comfortable and protected!.. He was my happy lost world, which at dawn was supposed to leave me forever... Thoughts rushed through one another sadder, bringing bright, dear images of our “past” life, which with Every minute she slipped further and further, and I could neither save her nor stop her...
- Be strong, my dear. You must be strong. You must protect Anna from him. And she must protect herself. I'm leaving for you. Perhaps this will give you some time... to destroy Caraffa. – the father whispered quietly.
I frantically clung to him with my hands, not wanting to let go. And again, as once upon a time, I felt like a little girl, looking for solace on his broad chest...
“Forgive me, Madonna, but I must take you to your chambers, otherwise I may be executed for disobedience.” “Please forgive me...” the old priest said in a hoarse voice.
I hugged my father tightly once again, absorbing his wonderful warmth for the last time... And without turning around, not seeing anything around me from the tears that blurred my eyes, I jumped out of the torture room. The basement walls were “wobbly” and I had to stop, grabbing onto stone ledges to avoid falling. Blinded by unbearable pain, I wandered lost, not understanding where I was and not realizing where I was going...
Stella quietly cried big, burning tears, not at all embarrassed by them. I looked at Anna - she was tenderly hugging Isidora, going very far from us, apparently living with her again these last, terrible, earthly days... I suddenly felt very lonely and cold, as if everything around was covered with a gloomy, black, heavy cloud. .. My soul ached painfully and was completely empty, like a dry spring that was once filled with pure living water... I turned to the Old Man - he was glowing!.. A sparkling, warm, golden wave flowed generously from him, enveloping Isidora ... And there were tears in his sad gray eyes. Isidora, having gone very far and not paying attention to any of us, quietly continued her stunningly sad story...
Finding myself in “my” room, I fell onto the bed as if knocked down. There were no more tears. There was only a terrible, naked emptiness and soul-blinding despair...
I couldn’t, I didn’t want to believe what was happening!.. And although I was waiting for this day after day, now I could not understand or accept this terrible, inhuman reality. I didn’t want the morning to come... It was supposed to bring only horror, and I no longer had the former “firm confidence” that I could endure all this without breaking down, without betraying my father and myself... Feelings of guilt for his cut-off life, a mountain fell... The pain was finally deafening, tearing my tormented heart to shreds...
To my great surprise (and wild chagrin!!!), I jumped up from the noise outside the door and realized that... I was sleeping! How could this happen?! How could I even sleep??? But apparently, our imperfect human body, in some of the most difficult moments of life, not obeying our desires, defended itself in order to survive. That’s how I, unable to bear any more suffering, simply “went” into peace to save my dying soul. And now it was too late - they came for me to take me to my father’s execution...
The morning was bright and clear. Curly white clouds floated high across the clear blue sky, the sun rose victoriously, joyfully and brightly. The day promised to be wonderful and sunny, like the coming spring itself! And among all this fresh, awakening life, only my tormented soul writhed and moaned, plunging into deep, cold, hopeless darkness...
In the middle of the small square filled with sunshine, where the covered carriage brought me, there was a huge fire, pre-built, “ready for use”... Internally shuddering, I looked at it, unable to take my eyes off. My courage was leaving me, making me afraid. I didn't want to see what was happening. It promised to be terrible...
The square was gradually filled with gloomy, sleepy people. They, who had just woken up, were forced to watch someone else's death, and this did not give them too much pleasure... Rome had long ago stopped enjoying the fires of the Inquisition. If at the beginning someone else was interested in the torment of others, now, several years later, people were afraid that tomorrow any of them could end up at the stake. And the native Romans, trying to avoid trouble, left their hometown... They left Rome. Since the beginning of Caraffa's reign, only about half of the inhabitants remained in the city. If possible, no more or less normal person wanted to stay there. And it was easy to understand - Caraffa did not take anyone into account. Whether he was a simple person or a prince of royal blood (and sometimes even a cardinal of his most holy church!..) - nothing stopped the Pope. People had no value or meaning for him. They were only pleasing or not pleasing to his “holy” gaze, well, the rest was decided very simply - the “unpleasant” person went to the stake, and his wealth replenished the treasury of his beloved, most holy church...
Suddenly I felt a soft touch - it was my father!.. Standing, already tied, at the nightmare post, he tenderly said goodbye to me...
- I'm leaving, daughter... Be strong. It's just a transition - I won't feel any pain. He just wants to break you, don’t let him, my joy!.. We will meet soon, you know. There will be no more pain. There will only be light...
No matter how much it hurt me, I looked at him without lowering my eyes. He again helped me endure. Like once upon a time, when I was just a baby and mentally sought his support... I wanted to scream, but my soul was silent. It was as if she no longer had any feeling, as if she were dead.
The executioner habitually approached the fire, offering a deadly flame. He did it as easily and simply as if he were lighting a cozy fire in his house at that moment...
My heart rushed wildly and froze... knowing that right now my father would be leaving... Unable to bear it any longer, I mentally screamed to him:
– Father, think!.. It’s not too late! You can leave with a “blow”! He will never be able to find you!.. I beg you, father!!!..
But he just sadly shook his head...
– If I leave, he will take on Anna. And she will not be able to “leave”. Goodbye, daughter... Goodbye, dear... Remember - I will always be with you. I have to go. Farewell, my joy....
A bright shining “pillar” sparkled around the father, glowing with a pure, bluish light. This wonderful light embraced his physical body, as if saying goodbye to him. A bright, translucent, golden entity appeared, smiling brightly and affectionately at me... I realized that this was the end. My father was leaving me forever... His essence began to slowly rise upward... And the sparkling channel, flashing with bluish sparks, closed. It was all over... My wonderful, kind father, my best friend, was no longer with us...
His “empty” physical body drooped, hanging limply on the ropes... A worthy and Honest Earthly Life ended, obeying the senseless order of a crazy man...
Feeling someone’s familiar presence, I immediately turned around - North was standing next to me.
- Take courage, Isidora. I came to help you. I know it’s very hard for you, I promised your father that I would help you...
- Will you help with what? – I asked bitterly. -Will you help me destroy Caraffa?
North shook his head negatively.
“And I don’t need any other help.” Go away North.
And turning away from him, I began to watch how what was burning was what just a minute ago had been my affectionate, wise father... I knew that he was gone, that he did not feel this inhuman pain... That now he was from us far away, carried away into an unknown, wonderful world, where everything was calm and good. But for me it was still his body that was burning. It was the same dear arms that burned, hugging me as a child, calming me down and protecting me from any sorrows and troubles... It was his eyes that burned, into which I loved to look so much, seeking approval... It was still for me my dear, kind father , whom I knew so well, and loved so much and passionately... And it was his body that was now greedily devoured by a hungry, angry, raging flame...
